I am just a few short days away from completing my semester studying American Politics here in Washington, D.C. In the last several weeks since my last post, I have had many wonderful experiences and have taken advantage of many opportunities. In the past couple months, I have taken a trip with friends to Philadelphia, gone camping in the mountains of West Virginia, walked down the historic waterfront of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, and visited the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. Back in D.C. I took a tour of the National Archives, went to the National Zoo, and visited the Federal Election Commission. On the academic side of my semester, I am just finally finishing up my last final exam and I had the last day of my internship last Friday. Altogether, I have learned more than I could have imagined about Washington and how our political system works. Interning on Capitol Hill has given me great insight into how the policy making process functions and the movers and shakers who make things happen. Up until this point, I am beyond grateful for the experiences and opportunities I have had so far and I am looking forward to spending what’s left of my time here with friends exploring the city before we have to say goodbye. In my final week in D.C. I am looking forward to going out with friends one last time, packing up and saying goodbye to the folks at American who have helped me along the way, and preparing to go home. Although, this coming Saturday will be my last day in D.C., I certainly hope that I will return in some respect in the future as I have really grown to appreciate and love the city. After leaving Saturday, I am planning to take a short weekend trip to Virginia Beach to blow off steam and relax before headed back home and getting back to work. It is my hope that I can take all that I have learned from my time here in D.C. and apply it to my life and education back home at Rollins. While I look forward to coming home soon, I am also sad to know that I only have little time left to spend here, of which I hope to make the most of!
