As I arrive back in the United States there is definitely a lot of things I need to readjust too, however I’m glad I can see my friends and family. Overall, my experience in Argentina and traveling around the lower countries of South America was amazing and something I wish I could do all over again. I would definitely recommend to another student or person to visit or live in Buenos Aires. It is a beautiful city with a great mixture of different cultures and people.
Being this is my first real time traveling in a new country by myself it was a very enlightening experience. Long weekend trips and even longer bus rides across Argentina really gave me the travel bug for the future. As soon as I get home I wanted to already plan my next time to travel. As I mentioned in my first post, my family all lives throughout different sections of the globe and being able to experience things that they had before was great. Although I already knew this before I left, I really love Latin America and this experienced further strengthened those feelings.
During my time I definitely learned a lot more about other cultures and the characteristics within them. I really enjoyed staying in hostels and meeting people from all around the globe all in one place. It was a great way to learn things I would never before.
I for sure believe people with different global identities experience and see the world differently. Your views are a direct result of your life and experiences, as well as the influence of your culture and environment. As the famous quote of Mark Twain says, “travel is the killer of bigotry”. I think this is really true in relation to world views as being in other peoples footsteps and seeing different ways of life can help keep a wider and clearer view of things.
My identity influenced me in my endeavors abroad. Being the youngest of six and always hearing about them traveling and other cultures created a fervor for culture and being out of your comfort zone. Due to this, I definitely wanted to experience as many things I could from a unbiased perspective.
