9 weeks since my last blog post? WOW! Time really is flying over here. I still find it hard to believe I have been in Spain a little over 2 months. We are halfway through the semester and already, I feel so accomplished!
Where to begin? Let’s rewind a bit to the beginning. The first month or so was filled with SO much adjusting and obviously, many ups and downs. From trying new foods, eating at different hours, speaking in Spanish (most of the time), figuring out my class schedule, making travel plans… ah, the list could go on and on. There have been so many ‘firsts’ in the little time I have been here. First time eating churros (by far my favorite dessert here), first time taking a spin class in Spanish, and first time using public transportation. Life is very different from what I am used to back in Jamaica or in the US. At first, it was difficult to adjust to so many things all at once, but really, all these things have made me that much stronger and wiser. My host mom has definitely made it very easy to adjust here in Spain. Oviedo may be a slow-paced and quiet town, but her charismatic personality and adventurous ways make it easy to enjoy each day. She helps me to improve my Spanish, she cooks delicious meals, and we love to watch our nightly TV shows together. I don’t know how I will ever say goodbye to such a caring human being!
On to the traveling…
My coordinator, Ana, has taken myself & Regan around on some beautiful excursions. We have been able to explore Northern Spain and ALL the beauty that comes with it. I can tell you for sure, this part of Spain is definitely underrated. Over the past 9 weeks, we have seen Gijón, Museo de la Minería, Cabo de Peñas, Cudillero, Avilés, and Santillana Del Mar! My favorite by far would have to be Cabo de Pénas, a beautiful land rising that overlooks the Cantabrian sea. If you’re anything like me and the beach makes you happy, you’ll definitely fall in love with some of these places. Here are some pics of what we’ve seen so far!
Stay tuned for more posts about my travels outside of Northern Spain, but for now, hasta luegooooo!
Time does fly! It’s great to see you are immersing yourself in your experience in Spain, and we love hearing about all that you are doing! The pictures are particularly lovely–make sure to keep recording all the incredible things you see and do! We can’t wait to see more.
