I am back from my spring break trip in Greece! It was really great to spend time with my mom…I think it was exactly what I needed to ease my homesickness. Nevertheless, it was really hard to say goodbye to my mom. The memory even brings tears to my eyes as I am typing this. I really miss home… my family, friends, my pets, the food, warm weather, sooo many things but in “just” 34 days I will be back home.
I turned 21 this past Tuesday almost right after I got off the plane. In just a few minutes after midnight, I was wished happy birthday by security which I found quite funny and preceded to pull an all-nighter in the Madrid airport. I arrived in Oviedo and went straight to my two morning classes. After taking a much-needed siesta, I celebrated with a group of friends and had a great time. My host mom explained my birthday, April 23rd, is the day of the book/libro, which is something I had never heard before surprisingly. Here in Spain couples and loved ones exchange books for a rose but since it was my birthday I was given both by my host mom. I took this as a sort of piece offering, as we had previously not been getting along.
This weekend was a three-day weekend. I had originally wanted to travel somewhere but unfortunately had no one to go with. As a female, I am too scared to travel alone and don’t want to worry my family. That being said, I have taken this time to myself to catch up on sleep and take a break from traveling so much over spring break.
On May 10th I will be going to Toulouse in the south of France, near where my mom is from with a friend I have not seen since high school. We plan to go to some really nice restaurants and enjoy! I am very excited! Hopefully that is not my last trip before leaving.
Just 34 days…I really cannot wait to be home. See you soon Florida, I am ready to bask in the sunshine 🙂
