This morning, I began to pack my suitcases. Next week, I will leave Buenos Aires and come home. It is quite a bittersweet departure, four months seems like not much time here but such a long time away from home. Finals begin on Monday, and I honestly have no idea where my time here went. This past month has flown by so fast.
I had so many expectations before coming abroad, and while some of them came into fruition, others were far off. For one, I am very confident in my language abilities. I was already proficient in my language abilities, but living in such a diverse city has exposed me to many varieties of Spanish, and I have learned more slang than I thought I would.
I did expect to meet more locals that would be life-long friends. I will say that this was harder than I expected, and something to think about if you are traveling abroad with this program. The school is set up with an International School that mainly keeps to itself, and even though the classes are taught in Spanish, you will probably find yourself in classes with students all from the US. Most of the people that I did become friends with ended up being from other countries in Latin America.
Honestly, I am glad to be coming home. I miss my friends more than anything, and my favorite foods (I am coming for you, Tako Cheena!) I am so excited to finally be able to drive again, and to cook in my own kitchen.
I am looking forward on returning to Latin America in the future.
Until next time, Argentina, Chau!
