I’m in the final stretch for my time here in London. All my classes are about to come to a close and there’s only a couple of weeks left until I finish my internship. I have been in London for almost three months, and while I have been able to experience and learn many things, there is still an abundance of information about the city I have yet to learn. Every day, I have been learning something new thing, regardless if it is simply a new bus line I can take or something like knowing the difference between The City of London and the city of London (former is the financial district that is separate from the rest of the city).
One of the nicest things I can reflect on my time here is the ability to travel and see different cultures. Although London is a complete different pace compared to Orlando, I feel like it is similar to living in a big metropolitan US city. Europe has given me the chance to see different countries that are much smaller in size, therefore have a different setup of their cities operate. The opportunities have also given me the chance to be in a country where I do not speak any of the primary languages. Personally, I feel that was an important step as I never had to rely on limited communication. It was an interesting experience and hope I can continue to have similar experiences in future.
Another thing that I feel should be reflected upon is my internship. This was different compared to any of my previous work experiences. It is a much smaller scale office environment with naturally less of a work load. Most of my work is through meetings and providing any input on the data for the clients which was a unique experience. I feel that if I knew what ahead of time what the environmental would be like I would have adapted much better. There were times throughout the semester when I had no other assignments and sort of waited for the next task. Looking back I should have been more direct and asked if there is any additional work that I could prepare but overall it has been a great experience.
