Having different personal identities that I identify with will be very helpful in my study aboard experience. Each identity will help me look at my study aboard experience in a new lens. My identities will help me to adjust and cope with life in a new country for several months.
Such as the student aspect of my life. This identity will help me focus on my academics. Being in a new country I want to experience all London has to offer but I must remember that I am also in school to learn. Just like Rollins, my student identity will help me find balance between academics and social life. My student identity will always make sure I am learning not just in my classes but through my adventures through London as well. I know that Queen Mary has a different teaching style than I am familiar with here at Rollins. My student identity will help me make those adjustments to succeed academcially in my classes. It will help me adjust the way I study for the class or how I take notes. My student identity will help me find a balance between work and play.
Another identity of mine that I think will be extremely beneficial for my study abroad experience will be the artist. I would consider myself an artist in many different mediums. I many aspects of the artistic world such as painting, music, dance, and theatre. I believe this Identity will really thrive in London. It is such an artistically rich place. My artistic side will force me to dive into the culture of London. I think this identity works well with my student side. I am studying theatre and look forward to experiencing the theatre in the UK. I also look forward to creating art while I am there. My artistic side will always want to go out and experience while my student side will make sure my academics come first.
I am so excited to be starting the new year in a completely new country. Not a bad way to kick off the new decade!
