I left home on Friday to come to New York for a final adventure in the states before I depart on my journey to Rome. I have never been away from home for this long but I cannot wait to see all the amazing experiences I will be having abroad. I am so so excited!!
I will be embarking on this journey with two of my favorite people from Rollins and this brings me so much joy as well as a little more comfort. It has been a long process to get here and I could not imagine doing this without them. I am sure this experience will bring so much change in to my life and I am here and ready for it. I always find myself looking for new challenges that will shape me into a better person but this will be the most exciting one by far! I think it’s really difficult to better yourself as a person if you continue to do the same things and avoid expanding your comfort zone. That is why I have always been told to get comfortable with the feeling of being uncomfortable because that is how you know you’re pushing your limits
Sure, it sounds easier said than done and I am aware that although I will be having fun experiences there are certain obstacles I will face living in a different country. Living in the states can sometimes mean taking a lot of things for granted like AC everywhere you go and having washers and dryers at home simple things like that. Yet this is not something that I will be having while in Rome. In addition to that, the language barrier is kind of a scary idea to me. I have grown up speaking both Spanish and English so I am hoping this makes it a little bit easier for me to communicate since from what I’ve learned so far Spanish and Italian share some similarities. I’m sure taking the Italian class will make me feel more comfortable trying to communicate with locals even if it’s just little things.
I’m excited for it all the people, the food, the places, the history, the weather, all the cultural differences! I want to be there already!
That’s all for now! Ciao!
