How can I even start? I heard so many things about the exceptional culinary in Italy that when arriving in the country I had high expectations already. Well, those high expectations were not high enough! The food is absolutely amazing! I don’t think I’ll ever be able to live somewhere and not compare the culinary to the one in Italy.
The gelato is the one thing I was most looking forward to eating! I tried so many gelato places! I would definitely recommend saving some of your stomach for a gelato dessert after meals! You won’t regret it! At least, I didn’t. It is so different, and it tastes fresher. I can’t really explain, but it is definitely different from ice cream in America (Ben & Jerry’s will never be the same).
The pasta. What can I say about the pasta? It is in every restaurant and I’ve never eaten so much in my life! I even found pasta in a Japanese restaurant menu! I was never a big fan of sauces in my pasta, but Italians just know how to put the perfect amount. I was basically eating it every day (which sounds bad, but I was eating my salad too, don’t worry). I would allow myself to do it, because I am walking so much, I feel like I am burning it off, and ready for the next! The pizza is also so good and so different from the ones in America.
I used to not drink coffee at all. I made some Italian friends and they told me that I didn’t like coffee because I was drinking it wrongly my whole life. Of course, I didn’t really believe them, but I was open to new experiences, so I agreed to go to a coffee place with them. Just a side note now: Did you know that the coffee shops are actually called bars in Italy? I didn’t know that, so I just used to think there were lots of drinking places on the streets! When I tried the Italian coffee, it was the first time I could actually say I liked the taste of it. A week later and I think I’m addicted J.
If you ever decide to come visit Italy, don’t forget to come ready to experience the food! Make sure you prepare your stomach!
