Now that I am home from an amazing semester in Rome Italy, I have had a lot of time to reflect on my time and experiences there. Naturally with spending four months in another foreign country you are bound to run into some situations. There were things that I was not use to at all for example no one had dryers, we had to air dry our clothes. This was something that I was so new too, but eventually you get use to it. Another thing that was new to me is how Italians keep their winter coats on for so long even when it would hit like 65 degrees they would still be bundled up and we would be in jeans and a t shirt, they definitely knew that we were not from their country. Even though there were things that I had to get use to, there are also things that I had to get use to being home as well. The experience that I had studying abroad is something I will cherish forever. I had the time of my life traveling and meeting new people. I grew as a person and became more independent, mature, and more open minded. I am so proud of myself for doing this for myself, if I didn’t go I would have regretted it so much. Not many kids can say that they traveled the world in their 20’s and Im happy I can say I have. I think that people from Italy are use to study abroad students, there are places that only study abroad students go to, but I don’t think that they see us being in their country as a bad thing rather I think that they are also able to learn from us as we learn from them. Reflecting upon my time in Italy has led me to come to the conclusion that I can live in a big city and navigate my self through public transportation. Some other things that I have learned was that even though I went abroad alone, I was able to make some pretty amazing friends which was really cool. I know that I will have them in my life for a very long time.
