After spending a few days in Malaysia, I have learned the significance of the color yellow, referencing royalty. Additionally, we were able to learn more about Malaysian history. During 1957-1963, the country was called Malaya, a different name, which was something that our tour guide had mentioned. The Chinese were forced to leave and go to villages, having to follow a 7 PM curfew, otherwise they would be killed. However, overtime their traditions developed. After visiting University of Malaysia (UM), we learned that identity is highly valued. If you are mixed with Malay on the father’s side and something else, you would have to identify as Malay. One place with a good example of multicultural society in Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur. Where people go and pray, many people pray multiple times a day they even have places in the mall where people pray. The customs here is also different compare to Singapore, in Singapore it is a law to clean up after yourself when you are done eating but in Malaysia the workers clean up after you finish eating.
