One of our opportunists in Kuala Lumpur was to learn about batik painting. In batik designs are first created in wax using a special stylist. Next paint is applied to these designs, with the wax keeping the paint separate. The fabric is then showed in sodium to remover the wax and ensure that the paint stays on the fabric. It reminded me a lot of water painting, but with the wax allowing for more complex designs then that style traditionally allows. The other major difference being that Batik is done on cloth instead of on a canvas. As it is done on cloth Batik is often used to paint designs onto clothing. During out visit we had the chance to paint our own Batik cloths.
