One thing from today while visiting NTPU that surprised me was how similar I observed college life at NTPU to the US college life. At NTPU students spoke about getting involved in interest-based clubs and community groups. For example, I spoke with an NTPU student who is involved in their dance organization and I recalled Rollins Expressions and we connected over our appreciation for dance. Additionally, not unlike Rollins, just off campus there was a variety of restaurants and fast food spots. Similarly, the grounds of the university itself are familiar. Each category of academic concentration had a separate building on campus, which is quite similar to most US colleges. NTPU even had a lake called the “Mind Lake” which was a feature of the campus and served as a study spot and a place to ground oneself and observe life.
The student dorms also faced the lake. This, naturally, reminds me a lot of Rollins with Lake Virginia. On the same note, NTPU students seemed to enjoy watching the geese and wildlife on the lake, much like I have done many times at Lake Virginia. Ultimately, I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised to see how familiar NTPU life seemed to me.
