This is gonna be the final post regarding my trip to Taiwan, I am pretty much gonna wrap up the rest of this field study by talking about Kaohsiung and briefly about the final day. Another long drive to another company that we visited called Enlitech which specializes in light sources, luckily we are also visiting their headquarters so basically where a majority of their employees are working. Surprisingly, the visit was short, they just showed us an overview presentation of the company similar to the Kneron company visit, kind of funny how these last 2 visits relate to science since Everwide was about chemicals and Enlitech was about solar energy. It was cool to learn about Enlitech and their use of solar energy by using solar panels, during their presentation, I was thinking about my brother getting solar panels for his home so that we can cut costs for his lights and other appliances that the solar panel uses energy for. Out of all the tours/companies that we have visited, I feel like the chemical factory (Everwide) was the most interesting because we got a tour of what they produce, with the other two (Kneron and Enlitech), their companies are more so offices if that makes sense, like when we visited them, they had cubicles.
Anyway, after the visit, we got to Cijin Old Street and Lighthouse by using a ferry. I decided to go eat at a sunset bar at the Old Street and got a soft shell taco chicken unfortunately, I did not get a picture however, the restaurant had a pet chicken which was cool. After eating lunch, we went to the lighthouse and I must say, it was a tough walk probably because I was running halfway when we were walking there but it was a nice one nonetheless. Here is a picture of me when we got to the lighthouse:
The Kaohsiung Museum of History was our next destination, unfortunately, when we were here I also didn’t take pictures of the place but basically, Nicholas was giving a history lesson about Taiwan, Kaohsiung, the 228 incident, and the White Terror incident that happened. I already knew some of this stuff that Nicholas was explaining and talking about due to my mom telling me about these incidents but it was nice to get a refresher on what happened. After this trip, we were planning to go to the Pier2 Art Center, but the field study group had unanimously voted for wanting to head back to the hotel, I didn’t mind either choice although by that point, my legs were killing me because of how much walking we had but it was okay that we went to the hotel. Dinner was on our own so I wanted to go to the local night market with my roommate, I am glad that Kaohsiung also has their own metro system because I wouldn’t wanna be walking all the way to the night market we wanted to be going to. The trip was both a blessing and a curse sadly because there were crane machines for figurines and plushies I wanted to get and I pretty much spent all my budget on them while also getting night market dinner which was pepper chicken, I have eaten these in the past and they were good so I wanted to get them so I could have my roommate eat it too so we could share. There was even an arcade machine that had a bunch of fighting games and other games, this was a shock to me because I had never seen an arcade like this in Taiwan so I was super stoked to play fighting games on it so I have picture of me playing Marvel Super Heroes.
On the final day, we went back to Taipei through a bullet train and then had lunch on our own where I ate minced pork noodles and finally our farewell dinner near the Taipei 101. To reflect, this field study was super fun and I wished we stayed in Taiwan, especially Taipei longer but things must eventually come to an end. I hope someday I get to do this again.
Thank you all for this incredible experience.
