The past few weeks have ben a series of ups and downs and inversions of everything I know. I’ve laughed and cried and sang and danced and slept like the dead… or some would just say like a college student.
I’ve spent a weekend in Paris, and it’s safe to say that it was an experience. I loved the food and ate crepes for practically every meal, spent hours and hours in the Louvre (barely scratching its surface), and danced under the Eiffel Tower at night. But Paris seemed a little inhospitable to me after Ireland and Rome. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but Paris and I will just have to remain acquaintances for now and in a few years I might be willing to give her another try.
I’ve also spent a majority of my time playing Frisbee and trying to balance my ever-expanding load of school work. I went to a tournament in Galway last weekend and had the time of my life playing cards, playing Frisbee, cheering on our friends, and meeting people from all over Ireland that came together for a weekend to have fun. Our team won our division and spirit for the whole tournament which is a big deal and was totally unexpected. There was plenty of celebrating that night, followed by everyone passing out cold on top of each other on the bus ride back to Maynooth. The levels of team bonding have reached insurmountable proportions at this point.
Here’s a short list of some of the lessons I’ve learned these past few weeks as well:
1. Never ever ever underestimate how easy it is to be pickpocketed and lose everything including your phone!!!!
2. A carton of eggs WILL sustain you for a week… you’ll just never eat one again
3. Scheduling is the only way to not show up at Frisbee practice that has actually become the trampoline bouncing club… always check facebook…
4. Never underestimate who will become your friend
5. Everyone in Ireland will help you and love you no matter how little you feel you deserve it. These people are amazing.
