Classes finally start tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited considering I’ve been out of school since December. My schedule is full of courses all in German. I’m taking a German language course, German Drama and Theatre, German Art and German Intercultural Communication, which will be a lecture course at the Ludwig- Maximillian University. I will also go to the first University Choir rehearsal on Tuesday, and hopefully I will be apart of that choir all semester. I’m also hoping to start a research project while I’m here and receive credits for that as well. The director of the program would like me to start a research project on opera in Germany, where I will see operas, research them and write about it… sounds like an absolute dream to me. I’m also in the process of getting a voice teacher, so hopefully I will be able to start singing seriously again!! I miss not being able to sing everyday.
On Friday, our program arranged a trip to the German Alps for a hike. We took the train a couple hours south to a small town called Mittenwald and were so incredibly lucky to have the most perfect dream weather possible. The past few weeks we’ve been here, we’ve had very cold temperatures, snow flurries and strong winds but on Friday, the temperature was in the low 70s and there was not a cloud in the sky. Not only was the weather nice, but the hike was incredible. The panoramic view was absolutely breath taking and once we got up to the top we got a nice meal and a cold beer! It was so beautiful and peaceful up there, it helps you to realize how the little things we worry about all the time, really aren’t worth stressing over. That was really important for me to experience because I stress about everything. Also, during the hike, I couldn’t stop thinking about how much inspiration I was taking in for future German Lieder that I’ll be singing. See, as a performer, every experience we have is an opportunity for an amazing performance. So the way I see it, it’s my job to experience as much as I can so I have more to express during my performances.
Anyway, I’m really looking forward to begin the semester, I think it’s going to be an amazing experience with very new and exciting opportunities.
