Throughout the first three weeks in Spain, I have participated in and experienced many cultural activities and excursions both in and outside of Madrid. Traveling to small rural towns such as Segovia and Candelario, or to the northern coast of Spain to the beach town of San Sebastián has thoroughly given me new perspectives on the culture of the country. In a brief weekend trip to San Sebastián with a small group of peers, immersed ourselves in the Basque culture of the city and took it upon ourselves to explore the rich history that can be found within. We hiked up to the 12th-century military stronghold, Mota Castle atop Urgull Hill where we learned about the various conflicts of the Siege of San Sebastián as well as experience the breathtaking views.
