Pre-Departure Blog
I cannot believe that I am finally 9 days away from embarking on my journey around the world from New Jersey to New Zealand. (I guess I like the whole “New” thing). I feel like I have been waiting for this day for so long. I recently got an email explaining that I will be living about a mile from campus in a house with 5 other students: one Kiwi host (a Kiwi is what they call someone who is from New Zealand), and four international students. I haven’t found out who any of them are, but I check my email a million times each day because I am so eager to find out. My best friend, Lila, is also studying in New Zealand. She will be living one block away from me and I could not be happier! I was so worried we would be far apart. I look forward to our first week in New Zealand because we will be spending it in Queenstown for orientation. TEAN (The Education Abroad Network) has planned several events for us to partake in. They also give us a free day to book activities of our own, so since Queenstown is the home of bungee jumping… I might just have to try it out 🙂
Despite my nerves, I am overwhelmed with excitement. I look forward to a new atmosphere, culture, and experience. I will miss my family, but I love how excited they are for me as well. My birthday is August 26th and my sisters and I will be taking a trip to Fiji to celebrate!
Stay tuned…
