Today is the day I have been waiting fervently for. I will departing to Buenos Aires, Argentina. As I sit here in the JFK airport awaiting the time for boarding, I am more than excited for what I am about to experience in the next 5 months . Growing up as the youngest of 6 kids, I have grown up watching my older 5 siblings embark on traveling adventure across the globe. This has always evoked a traveling desire from a young age. Now is finally the time for my completely own adventure without anyone else. Being that most my siblings and my dad live all across the globe, traveling and immersing yourself in new cultures is something my family really identifies itself with. I am very excited for such a big change and how refreshing it will be to have all new things around me. Buenos Aires is a very large city, so I am looking forward to experiencing what it is like to live in a large city. One of the reasons I chose here is because I know it will push me out of comfort zone.
About a week ago, I found out my host family and yesterday I found out my two roommates that will be staying in the same home. Going in I do not really know anyone else that will also be studying here, but I know that will change very soon. Looking into the future, I think I am most excited for the all things that are going to be brand new to me. From the people I will be with everyday, the food I will eat , and the sights I will see it will all be a refreshingly new experience in which I hope will broaden my world view and perspective. My first month here will be a Spanish intensive month in which most of my day will be dedicated to learning more of the language. One of my biggest issues I foresee is my lack of Spanish skills when I first arrive, however I know they can only improve. After the first month, I will begin my normal semester courses which will be taught in English and focus on the economic, political, and social relationships of Argentina and the Latin American world.
It an exhilarating feeling to know when I wake up tomorrow morning on the plane I will have arrived in my new home for the next half of a year and the journey will have begun.
