Kia Ora!
I’m back for another update! I just turned in my LAST assignment of the semester! Now I have one more week of classes and then a month of finals. Since, the University of Otago is so big (30,000 students) they have an entire month to schedule exams and every person has a different schedule. I have all of my finals between October 25th and November 5th. This means I have about two weeks of no class before my first final.
Erin and I have taken that time to plan a trip to the north island. I am currently on the bottom, east coast of the South Island so I have to take a flight to the north island. We booked a multi-city ticket which means we are going to be flying into Wellington (bottom of the north island) for three days and then taking another flight to Auckland (top of the north island) for four days! We are staying with our friends Mikaela from orientation while we are in Auckland because she is attending the University of Auckland. We have made a list of things we want to do in the north island including visiting a couple famous wineries for a tour, riding the trolley up in Wellington, and climbing the sky tower! I am looking forward to this trip because it will be so cool seeing two new cities. Additionally, for my marketing class I submitted a 10 page report on a cafe in Wellington and we are planning on actually having lunch at the cafe while we are in Wellington.
I found that my favorite moments during my time abroad has been exploring different towns and cities around the south island. Erin and our three friends (Alex, Seeley, and Raf) went away several weekends the first months to places like the Catlins, KaKa point, and Queenstown where we did different activities including skiing, hiking, went penguin spotting, and camped. We would go to small cafes and bars around the south island. Also, I found that many of these small cafes and bars also had shops which we purchased homemade candles and souvenirs. These moments have been my favorite so far, but I am excited for what will come! Thanks for reading!
