G’day mate!
It’s been 2 months since I’ve posted. It’s been a busy 2 months and I finally have time to sit here and dump out my thoughts.
When I last left off, I mentioned I was going to a boat party on Sydney Harbour. It was awesome! The boat took us around Sydney Harbour, where we saw the Opera House and Harbour Bridge in all its glory. I took some dope pics (if I do say so myself). I also met so many other people at the boat party from all over the world. From there, I spent the rest of my weekend in Sydney. The next day, my friends and I went to the Sunday shops on the Rocks, where I found myself cute, trendy sunglasses for $25. We also went to the Museum of Contemporary Art. I am not much of an art person but I still enjoyed going to all the exhibits and learning about each of the pieces.
After that weekend, it was back to Newy and into my routine of going to class and working. That weekend, I went to Adelaide with my sister. Overall, Adelaide is a small yet enjoyable city however you can see it all in a weekend. The real highlight of that trip was Kangaroo Island. My sister and I took a private tour where we saw all the highlights. I saw wild seals on the beach, saw koalas and kangaroos in the wild, and saw many cool cliffs and rock formations. If you are ever in Australia, I highly suggest going to Kangaroo Island.
After that was yet another mundane week for me going to class and doing work. I then went to Sydney to spend YET another weekend there, this time with my sister. I finally took one item off my bucket list, the Harbour Bridge climb. Looking at the price, I thought it was overpriced and I was doing it only to say that I did it. However, it was an AMAZING experience that I would recommend to anyone. Even my sister, who is afraid of heights, really enjoyed it. I also spent some time at Bondi Beach and the Blue Mountains that weekend.
A few weeks later, I spent a weekend in Melbourne. Let me just say I’ll never be hip enough for Melbourne. Everyone was so fashionable and dressed to the 10s I looked like a potato in comparison. Not only that, I had some of the best food I’ve ever had in Melbourne. I also took a drive on the Great Ocean Road and pictures do not do it justice. It was breathtaking. That’s all I gotta say. I can go on and on about how amazing Melbourne is. If you ever go to Australia, Melbourne and Sydney are the two places you should not skip.
Then it was time to go to Bali for semester break! If I’m being honest, I was scared of going at first. The combination of never having been to Asia, the recent earthquake in Lombok, and not traveling with my family threw me off. However, Bali turned out to be one of THE BEST places I’ve ever visited. I took a tour of Ubud, which went to rice paddies, a waterfall, a few craft stores, and some of the best views I’ve seen in my life. I also spent time exploring various temples, beaches, and restaurants. The funniest yet scariest part of the trip was that a monkey stole my phone. I was walking around Uluwatu Temple with my phone in my hand and a monkey, thinking it was food, grabbed it. It took some minutes and a few people working at the temple to get my phone. On the bright side, my phone is working just fine. Sadly, my case and protective glass were lost in the chaos so I had to get a new phone and protective glass.
Now that I’m done adventuring for a while, it feels nice to just be living in Newcastle for a bit. It is now starting to finally feel like home. I have a coffee place I frequent and I know how to get around on public transportation without help. And to me that is part of the beauty of study abroad: getting to know a foreign country so well that it feels like home.
Until next time!
Cheers,
Fabi
