As my time in Italy begins to end, I’ve begun to reflect on my time here, including what I’ll miss about Rome and why I’m still looking forward to going back home. With only 5 more days left in Italy, I must say that the countdown has been bittersweet. Although I am so excited to be reunited with friends and family, I am also sad to say goodbye to all the people and places I’ve grown to love and care for. In four months I have visited 7 countries, learned the basics of a new language, met friends from all over the world, taken classes taught in a more European-style, and realized how big, yet small the world is. To expand on the latter, what I mean is, no matter what country I’ve been in, whether it was Austria, Spain, France, Prague, Budapest, Poland, Italy, or the Czech Republic, I, or one of my roommates have run into someone we know or someone from where we are from and are connected to. This is why the world is actually such a small place. However, before this trip I had spent the majority of my time in Florida and mainly traveled the Western side of the world. Going to so many European countries, both in Eastern and Western Europe, some belonging to the Mediterranean culture and others not, I’ve truly grasped just how much there is to see in this world. This realization has motivated me all the more to go away from Florida for law school and truly think about settling down in another state. I’ve realized Europe is so full of history and culture, but for better or worse, America is home. Although America can’t compare to the rich history of European nations, geographically there is so much to experience, and in all honesty even a bit culturally, since I am a firm believer in there being different cultures varying by the state, or area of the country that you live in. I am sad to say goodbye to building 259, my favorite monuments, my favorite restaurants, and some very amazing professors and friends, but Rome, I’ll be back again, and to all the amazing people I’ve met, it’s not a goodbye, but a see you later!
Some of my favorite memories!!!
