This past month cannot even be put into words. It crazy to reflect back and realize I have officially been here for a month now. It feels as if I just arrived yesterday afternoon. Little did I know prior to my departure that a country would be capable of stealing a piece of my heart so quickly and continue to do so every single day. The breathtaking scenery and incredible people leaves me in a constant state of awe. This opportunity to study abroad in Sydney, Australia has already impacted my life in such a positive and bright way.
Within this past month, I have already grown and change into a more open and confident human being. The supportive and loving friend group I have found here has shaped me into a better form of myself already. I can truly say I have never been this happier, truer to myself, or been this best version of myself until this experience abroad. I cannot wait for the next few months of more growth and prosperity! Here’s to endless adventures and the semester of a lifetime.
Since I have been here I have had so many opportunities to truly experience the Australian culture. On February 2nd, I attended the Mardi Gras Parade right here in Australia. The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is one of the world’s largest celebration of the LGBTQI community. I was overwhelmed with love as everyone came together on one day and night to celebrate love itself. It was so empowering to see people from all over the world come together and spread a universal message of equal rights, pride, and diversity. I met a woman who flew all the way from Scotland just to attend this parade. It was an incredible experience that will live with me forever.
