Our weekend excursion to Candelario has been the highlight of my trip this far. I enjoyed every aspect of it! On our way Candelario, we stopped in Salamanca and took a guided walking toward around the city. The architecture was phenomenal, (especially the doors to the cathedral). When we arrived in Candelario, my friends and I received the key to our very own cabin. It was such a cute space! I immediately called dibs on a cozy lofted area with an adorable winding staircase. When we had time to explore the town before and after meals, we walked through the winding streets, discovering impressive views with each turn. On Friday night, we hung out at one of the local bars. The locals were so kind and fun! On Saturday we visited Granadilla (an abandoned town that is now used for summer camps and open to tourists). It was absolutely beautiful! And just when I thought the views couldn’t get any better, I climbed to the top of the main tower and was able to see the entire town, the surrounding water, and mountains (miles of them). Also, the picture below is me in a tree in Granadilla. Unfortunately, I came down with a cold Saturday afternoon (probably all that cold mountain air) and ended up staying in bed for most of the day. Surprisingly, I still really enjoyed my day. Our room was so relaxing and warm, and I was able to catch up on some trip journaling. On Sunday we went on a leisurely walk and visited historical spots along the way. I drank from the purest mountain water spout which is said to grant you a significant other with just three sips. Well, I filled my water bottle up so fingers crossed. In the afternoon we headed back to Madrid. Candelario was absolutely incredible! It was a weekend I’ll never forget.
