Buenos Dias,
After spending just over two weeks in Spain, I have to say that Toledo is by far the most interesting place I’ve seen so far during my study abroad program here in Madrid, Spain. The city itself dates over 2000 years old and throughout that time the city was home to Christians, Jews, and Muslims. For some time, all three groups of people lived together within the city. This made the translation of scholarly writings possible in Toledo, spreading the understanding of sciences and mathematics from Arabic scholars to Christians and Jews. If you love algebra, thank the past scholars of Toledo! In my opinion, this blended society also created some beautiful architecture which can be seen in the churches. I also believe the city has played a more important in the world than anything else I’ve seen so far in my study abroad program.
One aspect of the city that intrigued me was the plethora of swords and knives that were being sold in the stores. Swords and knives from Toledo are among the most sought after due to their high quality. It is their swords and knives that supplied the roman legions. I definitely recommend visiting Toledo if you are ever in Spain. I only went for a day, but I would like to have spent a couple days there.
