Hola from Madrid!
This picture was taken at Santiago Bernabeu which is the stadium that the soccer team Real Madrid plays their home games at. It was taken after the final game of the season which Real Madrid won 7-3 against FC Getafe. The reason I chose this moment is because of how surreal it felt, and how interesting it was noticing some of the differences between the culture back home and here. This moment was the first time it really hit me that I was in another country. We were able to watch Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the best players to ever play, score three goals in the first half, and had the opportunity to watch ten goals in total go in the net. While the game itself was fun the culture of the event was the most interesting part. One of the biggest differences I noticed was that there was barely any cars parked around the stadium which means no tailgating which is shocking to anyone who attends a sporting event in the US. Also, after the game when we were taking pictures people were coming up to take pictures with us and we realized that painting your chest for any kind of game must not be a Spanish custom, and that this was probably one of the first, if not the first time anyone has ever done that at a Real Madrid game.
The Real Madrid game was one of many experiences that has made me fall in love with Spain, and while the United States is still home, I could see myself living here the rest of my life.
Adios!
