First and foremost, I guess I would identify as a procrastinator as I am doing this blog post the day before I leave to go to my CAPA London program. Obviously the disadvantage would be that getting my assignments and other tasks done is much more stressful than they may need to be. I guess the only advantage is that I have gotten really good at getting important tasks done quickly while still making them good quality.
My main identity is that I am an athlete. I row at Rollins and have rowed for 5 years now. How I conduct myself and how I treat my body is all in a way that would help me preform at the best of my ability on the water. My sport has also taught me discipline and hard work. This could help me relate to other people that I otherwise wouldn’t have anything in common. I know one of my roommates is a football player and we automatically have the experience of being a student athlete to relate to each other. The sport that I do (rowing) is also one of the more popular sports in the UK so I will have the sport in common with a good amount of people in the country.
My political identity is also very important to me. One of my majors at Rollins is Political Science so the world of politics is something I am passionate about. My internship through the CAPA program while I’m in London is through the Local Government Association where I will be helping with lobbying on behalf of the local governments around London. I am a registered Democrat and especially after this last presidential election I became very invested in United States politics. I enjoy listening to podcasts such as Pod Save America and The Daily in order to keep myself up to speed with what is happening in the political scene. Being invested in politics will be a great advantage to me in the internship I will be doing abroad.
I’m super excited for this semester abroad to start and all the new experiences I will have.
