While we saw far too many museums while in Madrid to remember each of their names, the one exhibit that stood out to me was designed by Chema Madoz. Chema is a Spanish photographer, best known for his black and white surrealist photographs. He studied at the Art History at Universidad Complutense de Madrid in the 1980s where he was exposed to such imaging. Today, his exhibits are filled with a multitude of black and white optical illusions with no title attached to any of his works. Many critics comment that his works creates an element of surprise by blending two unrelated objects or by playing objects in unexpected settings. Below are two of my favorite pieces from his exhibit. While interpretations can be left to one’s imagination, there is no doubt that each of his pieces are moving in their own way. If you are in town, the exhibit is open (and free!) until the beginning of August.
