This past weekend, some friends and I decided to spend our OXI Day weekend in Santorini. We planned on staying for 4 days and to come back to Athens the night before classes resumed. All of us took a 30 minute plane ride to Santorini and checked into our hotel, From there, we explored the downtown Oia area and sat down to eat Greek food at King Neptune restaurant. Not only was the food delicious, but I was able to converse with someone else completely in Greek. I really felt as if I’m finally understanding what it’s like to speak the language of my people!
The next day, I walked all over downtown to take in the scenery and take in my surroundings. Sometimes experiencing a new, unfamiliar place is the best way to learn more about something and get a sense of what it really means to you. Growing up, my Dad would always tell me the best place he’d ever been to was Santorini because of the beautiful sunset. Now that I’m here, I want to make this a hell of a memorable trip that I’ll never forget.
The best was the third day in Santorini because it was the last chance I’d have to explore more of what Oia has to offer and savor each moment. Although we didn’t walk around the island as much as we would have, my friends and I sat down for lunch at this restaurant/café that overlooked the other surrounding islands. There was where we got the chance to witness the sunset that people travel all around the world to watch.
Man was that such an exciting, yet peaceful moment to be a part of. When that sun sets, it becomes a bright orangey color that is beautifully blinding because you can’t tear your eyes away from or it’ll disappear! Not only were we all at the right place at the right time but being together during the sunset made everything feel perfect. If I could relive this trip again, it would be so worth it. Needless to say, I did find my paradise…in Santorini!
