Growing up in a hispanic background with european and French cultures all in the same household was interesting to say the least. I always loved induldging myself in french culture as a kid as my father is French. I believe it helped me grow as a person and helped me become the man I am today. In the same way, I believe it helped me have a smoother transission as I have been living for the past two months in a small town in the south of France called Aix en Provence. For a lot of the people I have met here at the program it has been a lot harder for them since they never expereicned a lot of the things I did as a child growing up with French parents.
The one thing I thought was a lot harder for me to get used to was living with my host, Farid. Farid was originally born in Moroccos, and later moved to France when he was about 30. He is now a divorced man with a daughter living in Barcelona, he works from home so he doesnt really leave the apartment much. at first, I did not really like him and really didnt feel comfortable with him because of how different we were on so many different aspetcs. After a couple weeks of getting to know him better, I learned how much of a great and caring guy he really is. I am truly thankful to the program for giving me the opportunity to meet and live with such a great guy as Farid.
All in all, i think its been a great experience, one where I have been able to learn more about my family’s culture, learn the language, and gotten the opportunity to travel throughout France and Europe as well. But more on that on the following blog…
