Throughout this month (November) I have gotten an even better grasp of the content in my classes, a better command on the language and strengthened/developed new friendships. This month in Oviedo, Spain I feel like I have nearly completely adapted to this new way of life and the differing cultural aspects. For example, even if it seems odd, I never liked using an umbrella and always preferred just a rain jacket. But it has been raining consistently (I guess it is a normal seasonal change) and my clothes are getting soaked even with a the jacket on! As a result, I have had to adapt my ways and finally start using an umbrella. On a more positive note, my classes are all going well and I feel like I am just taking classes to learn course concepts, as opposed to having to focus heavily on the fact that the classes are taught in spanish. I am also super excited to have received the comment from one of my professors that she considers me fluent in the language! Without a doubt, I am no pro and still need to learn a lot more vocabulary and colloquial phrases. Regarding friendships, there are a lot of students from the west coast in the US, who have also made friends with several students from Spain and other European countries, like Germany and the Netherlands! It is very interesting to hear and learn more about the different cultures from more countries than just the one in which I am studying. In continuation, I have traveled to even more Spanish cities around Oviedo, such as León and Lastres. Without a doubt, Lastres is one of the most scenic areas I have ever seen. It was first founded as a fishing village on the Atlantic Ocean, so of course that view is amazing. Also, it is located on a mountain side and all of the houses are all different colors. In conclusion, this month has been just as exciting as the rest and I can’t wait to finish with a bang.
