I am saying goodbye to this amazing country where I was able to call home for the (almost) two months I was there. Thinking about my thoughts before I came here, I can now say that everything went as expected. I did not have any problems making friends. The opposite happened. I made these huge connections with my friends that when it was time to say goodbye, we all cried. However, we already have plans to see each other in the future so it was not as sad as it could have been. I remember that I wanted to grow as a person, learn new skills, a new culture, new people, and travel. Some of those things did not happen because I had to leave Australia earlier because of Coronavirus but in this short time I did a lot of things. I grew as a person as now I know who I’m truly are and what I want; I tried new things (skydiving), I learn about this amazing culture, and I met wonderful people. The only travel I did was to Cairns because all this COVID-19 was in the way.
I remember that I described Australia as a country that transmits me positivity, good energy, and drives to try new things. All that is true. Even a boring day will become the best one. Just walking around the beaches and seeing people hanging out outside and having fun made my day. Honestly, I did not have a hard time adjusting. Australia is such a great country that it was really easy. The people here are so nice and understanding, as well as people from other countries that lived here.
The question is, did this time abroad change me? The answer is yes somehow. I already study abroad a couple of times before coming here so I was able to change and learn about it before this time abroad. However, every experience is different and you learn different things every time. The people that I met here made me realize that I do not need to change anything about myself to fit in because there are always people that will accept you for who you truly are. I always knew the theory but it was difficult to put it in practice. However, after coming here I did. I meet people from different countries (Croatia, India, South Korea, USA, Mexico; Canada, etc.) and all of them taught me something that I did not know; about their country, their experiences and life lessons that I will differently use in my life. The last thing I want to say is, do I recommend studying abroad? The answer to this question is so easy, YES!!!!!!! Do it because it will change your life and the way you see the world.
