Throughout my time in Greece so far, I have managed to experience many new aspects of this culture that I currently find myself in and that honestly is great, I love being able to spend my time here. But even though the experience here is great there are still some times when time here can seem difficult, or I struggle to deal with something. One very overt example of that is simply how things are in a different language. Of course, it is completely normal that things, things at the supermarket as an example, are in a different language but it can be confusing and maybe even overwhelming at times when you not only do not know what is available to purchase in a new place but even what the things that are available are. One time when this came to pass was when, early on in the semester, some of my roommates and I were making breakfast. Now we thought we were using all the ingredients that we needed but found out that it tasted weird and honestly bad. We didn’t know if it was just us or something we did or if it was some of the ingredients. We eventually found out that it was due to us buying and using citric acid instead of salt. We were definitely annoyed at the moment but honestly there was no way for us to know without asking, we were still adjusting to this new place. We laugh about it now (and also now know where the salt is in the supermarket) but it just goes to show how in the overwhelming moments of being in a place with all of this new stuff as your trying to adjust you make mistakes that annoy you in the moment but help you to learn in the long run.
