What a rush. I have two days to go before I board a plan to take me half way around the world to Shanghai, China. I have never wandered out of the country before and China feels like a huge leap for the first place to become lost in. The past few days have been an emotional rollercoaster of excitement and nervous energy.
I love the thought of a new adventure. Shanghai from what I have researched will be sure to not disappoint even the most enthusiastic traveler. I truly wanted to experience what it would be like to live in another country that I feel I am connected to. I knew this was the case as soon as I embarked into my Mandarin class at Rollins College. As soon as I heard about the study abroad in Shanghai, I knew that someway I was going to make this my reality. I will come back with a better understanding of Chinese culture. I will become more fluent in Mandarin. Most importantly, as an aspiring economist, I look forward to grasping a better understanding of Chinese economic policy as well as a good background of China’s economic history.
I have many goals that I look forward to accomplishing while I am abroad in China. I am looking to explore all new opportunities Shanghai has to offer as a potential place to live and work in the future.
