Being from Florida, I am used to the sunshine and warm weather. Now that I find myself living in London there was a big adjustment to the weather here. I have found that the sun does not really come out much and it rains frequently. The first few weeks here I was often asking myself “why is London so gloomy?” I have brought this up in conversations with one of my professors here and she just told me “welcome to London” and started to laugh. I quickly learned that complaining about the weather is a common way to bond with strangers here. I eventually had to turn to google with my questions and I found some interesting things. Since it is Winter here the low pressures from the Atlantic blow right through the city. Another factor for when it is not winter is that due to the city’s towering skyscrapers, what little rays of sunshine London does have can get blocked from view. I also found that due to the common color scheme of mostly gray building the light get reflected off and creates a dimming effect on the city.
