Don’t let anybody tell you anything different. Three weeks into studying abroad definitely feels like I’ve been here forever. Ive adapted to waking up for hours of Chinese class, but making sure I get my bao zi (breakfast dumplings) first. Then finishing off the day with your classes or hanging out and doing homework. If I’ve learned one thing it’s that people in Shanghai LOVE to eat out. When I say love, I mean it’s basically an every meal thing. No one stays at home to cook their meals, instead going to a nearby restaurant and becoming a regular is the norm. And don’t get me wrong, that’s probably my favourite part of living here so far: The food. Everything is cooked with real, healthy ingredients and presented so well. Don’t listen to the buzz or negativity about food here, it’s all wrong. No other food can compare (And yes, it is also false that you can’t get American food here – it exists). For now I’ll leave you all with the daydreams of food here, because it’s time for me to go meet up with my friends and have dinner 😉
