It’s hard to believe that another week has passed and our adventure in Münster is almost half over! This week has immersed me further into the German culture. Our class levels have finally been settled and a daily routine is starting to develop. Dr. Decker took us on a tour through the promenade that culminated in our group getting food a local restaurant (it was fantastic!)
The classes have been informative. It’s great to be able to practice what I learn in the classroom in the real world. However, I have found that many Germans are more than willing want to practice their English than to speak German with us. This has made it somewhat difficult to practice my German but I can tell that my foreign language skills are developing nonetheless!
It’s been nice to meet people from other countries and explore differences and similarities between their native land and the U.S.A. Many of the Kapito students have come from Taiwan and Switzerland. This study abroad experience has not only heightened my knowledge about German culture but has taught me what it means to be a global citizen. Kapito is a great place to learn about another culture in depth while learning about the world as a whole.
It’s difficult to deny the Germans we talk to the very thing we don’t want them to deny to us, hahaha.
I completely agree about the German people switching to English when they hear my awful German accent. It’s good that we keep trying though. I love that the American students seem to be bringing all the international students into our group so we can hang out. Sehr cool!
If anyone attempts English with me I’ll just continue in German, it pushes the language back to German fairly well. Haha
