This has been my favorite week by far. I feel that I’ve made the most progress in the last 7 days with my German than in the previous weeks here. I’m starting to feel more comfortable at speaking German with locals and am still enjoying meeting new people. The people of Germany seem to have their own unique reserved personalities. However, once you begin a conversation and tell them a little about yourself they begin to open up.
Today we went to Osnabrück to meet the new Fulbright Scholar who will be teaching and attending Rollins for the next two semesters. She took us to a local restaurant called Kartoffelhaus. I had one of the best meals in my entire life there. The Bratwurst with potatoes and fried eggs were amazing! The city itself also had a lot of history pertaining to the 30 year war. I wish that I had more time to explore the area as it seemed to be very full of history and points of interest.
One highlight of my trip is going to a barbeque with my host. She took to me to a friend’s house where a small group of people met and talked until late into the night. It was definitely an experience that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. The food was good, the conversation was nice, and the company was fun.
I can’t believe the trip is almost over! Time flies!
I had such a good meal in Osnabrück as well! It seemed like such an interesting city!! I’m glad we got to see it!
