We were having some drinks at my friend’s room that night. A bit of context to the situation, there are a group of exchange students that I met during the Orientation-Week and since then, we have been enthusiastically travelling around Germany, partying decently, and simply having a fun time. The day before, I was 100 percent unsure that I will not be joining the trip, but a few drinks later I decided to go and I do not regret the decision even a bit.
Berlin is not to far away from Bremen – we took a bus and it took about 4 hours to get there and an additional half to go to the center of the city. From Bremen to Berlin, the travel lasted between roughly 8 am and 2pm. After a few hours of rest and food at one of our friend’s uncle’s apartment, we made our way to the Berliner Mauer, Berlin Wall in English, or lets say what is left of it. The wall was about 500 meters in length and showcased interesting graffiti from various artists around the world. It was called the East Side Gallery for fair reasons.
Here are some, but not all, of the pictures that I took from my phone. It does not do justice but its “fair enough” (as my friend Liam from Scotland would say).
This is the revamped painting of the kiss between East German leader Erich Honecker and his Soviet counterpart Leonid Brezhnev.
An interesting graffiti piece that has been popular in Instagram under the hashtag #StraightAttitudeLoyal
The end of the East-Side Gallery/Berlin Wall. The date on this graffiti is of the historical day when the East and West Germany were unified as one.
A wonderful sunset to enjoy a couple of beers with
It was nice to visit a place that had such historical presence in a matter of a few hundred meters. There is still a lot more yet to see in Berlin because it is quite a big city. In the near future, I will definitely pay Berlin another visit to experience a bit more of the city. If you are in Germany, this place is a must-go.
