The first week of October has been very interesting. I’m starting to get a very good feel for all of my classes and how to handle the fact that they’re entirely in French. My Impressionism course would be too easy if it were in English, but the French art vocabulary is something I do not yet have. Thus, this course is my hardest. I really am enjoying my spoken and written French grammar courses. The teacher doesn’t speak any English so I’m guaranteed to learn some French while being there.
I’m also starting to get comfortable with the idea of having a home-stay. My home-stay is a very independent situation in that my host dad is really almost never home so it gives me a lot of freedom to feel as though I’m living on my own which is preferred. However, when he is home, we get to eat together and I practice speaking French with him. His French accent though is one of the thickest I’ve encountered so sometimes it’s very difficult to understand him. I think one of the things I like most about my home-stay is being able to cook for myself when he’s not there. I don’t have all my preferred ingredients, but Rodolphe (host dad) has taught me some quick, typically French meals, and it’s been fun to make them on my own!
