I didn’t understand the “international family” of Rollins until I came to Hong Kong this semester. Now, I not only understand it, but also deeply appreciate it. Upon my arrival, Kathy, the local Hong Kong showed up at the airport and accompanied me to Hong Kong Baptist University. She was a former HKBU student and graduated last year. The only reason I would know her and became friend of her was because she exchanged to Rollins through the same program two years ago. I was so lost and confused when I just got to Hong Kong. She helped me check in to my dorms, showed around the campus, took me to Ikea the same day and arranged a few dinners with me to show me around Hong Kong. Literally, she was the life saving angel from heaven for me. And one month after school started, I met up with Annie and Spencer. They are two Mainland Chinese girls who go to HKBU and also exchanged to Rollins last year/semester. It is just so relieving and comforting to have old friends in a new place. It is great to share my experience in Hong Kong so far with them. Also, they gave me tips and shared their summer experience with me too. One week later, I heard that, Erina, my Japanese friend from Kansai Foreign Language University is visiting Hong Kong. She also exchanged to Rollins two years ago and was roommate with Kathy. She is paying a visit to Hong Kong since I am here and Kathy visited her last year. Erina is arriving early in October and both Kathy and her had birthday in late September. What a perfect timing! In order to celebrate both of their birthdays, introduce Annie and Spencer to them, and introduce my fiancé to all of them, we had a little party in Ritz Carlton. It was so much fun seeing Erina after two years; sharing each other’s life and new stories; and celebrating my big event with all my girls. All thanks to Rollins to create this big international family and giving us the opportunity to meet each other. Dedicating to this special bond, we all wore some blue to the party. Now Erina is back in Japan, Kathy is working full time, Annie and Spencer are busy seniors, however, we know we will always see each other some day in the future because we all belonged to the family called Rollins.
