When you get the opportunity to travel other parts of China, with one of the most fun loving people in your program – you take it! When deciding what to do for independent travel, I immediately look to going somewhere that would interest me, somewhere new and somewhere I would both enjoy and learn a lot. Granted, my friend Amanda, took over the planning of the trip and I got to go with flow (the flow ended up being me booking the train ticket for the wrong day AND rushing to the train station to change it for the day after). Yes, That is how my weekend started but not even close to how it ended.
Take a long at Fenghuang. An ancient city in the middle of China, where the food is ever flowing, streets are filled and literally there is so much to see and do. Spent the day navigating around with our small amount of chinese, always saying “wodezhongwenbutaihao” (Our chinese is not very good) and being stopped at every corner to be in pictures – because that’s right, we were the only foreigners there. Never been in such a place to make me so happy. Despite it raining the whole time there, then getting sick afterwards, I will never forget my adventures in Fenghuang.
