What’s up guys,
**My apologies, I typically write my blogs on the plane or in route to our next European destination, thus I never have internet upon completion. My intent it to post each blog once I come in contact with internet, but it never seems to work out that way. Anyway, here is a blog that discusses my experiences over fall break. Again I apologize that this blog is out of order. Thanks for your understanding and enjoy the read. :)**
We made it!! After 10 long days traveling throughout Europe, our journey has come to an end. Prior to my departure I didn’t give this journey much thought. My expectations were set low, and I figured at best it would be a fun social experience that I could share with my buddies. We did have a few cultural experiences planned; however at first sight they lacked substance and personal appeal. Ultimately, I was excited to travel to these places and see what they had to offer, but I wasn’t expecting to be knocked of my feet by any means.
BOY WAS I WRONG!!
I completely underestimated the impact this trip would have on me as a person and as a student. We traveled to Ibiza, Barcelona, and Paris, and each place had its own mini-culture existing in an overbearing mainstream culture. For example, when we were in Paris we went to Eiffel Tower, which I’m sure you can imagine was packed with tourist, street vendors, and panhandlers. However, once we went to the outskirts of Paris, where the real culture lived, we saw the truth that hides behind the mainstream tourist driven culture we saw at the Tower. The same situation existed when we visited Barcelona. The main strip where some of the top clubs, stores, and restaurant in the world are located is called Passeig Martim. Similarly to the Effie Tower, this area was equally crowded and didn’t really have much visual or cultural appeal. However, once we left that area and visited Carrer de Mallorca, where the famous Sagrada Familia was built, we were overwhelmed with authentic Spanish culture.
My study abroad experience has been one packed with adventure, and experiences that will last a lifetime. So far, I have been to Croatia, Prague, Greece, Spain, France, and city’s all over Italy including, Rome, Florence, Elba, Capri, Sorrento, Pompeii, Naples, the Chianti region of Tuscany and the Medieval Hill towns of Central Italy, and every time I am left speechless. At this point you’d figure I’d realize that no matter where I go in Europe I’m guaranteed to have a wonderful experience.
Now that I am back from Fall-break, I have 4 weeks until my parents arrive for Thanksgiving. Fortunately, I have 2 weeks to recuperate from break, but then I’m back on a plane to Amsterdam, which unfortunately will be my last adventure abroad. Studying abroad has helped me grow both as a student and a person, and I highly advise anyone who is questioning whether or not to go, I say JUST DO IT.
GO TARS!!
