Today I embark on a journey of a lifetime. I’m leaving my beautiful island of Puerto Rico and I’m heading towards the wonderful country of Ireland. I’m awaiting a whole new set of experiences and am ready to be immersed in a different culture from my own. I’m excited to leave but I’m really going to miss being at home.
Though I can’t say that my home is the only place I’m going to be missing during my time abroad. One of my favorite places to be is at Rollins – my home away from home – and I already miss it dearly. I have definitely begun to feel some of the homesickness of not returning to Rollins after this winter break. I miss all of my friends there so much and just being at Rollins in general. As my departure quickly approached I began to feel major FOMO (fear of missing out) of not being back at Rollins that I even contemplated not going abroad! But I’m positive that it was simply the nervousness kicking in. I’m super excited to be going to Ireland and I know I’m going to have a great time.
The blizzard in New York had been cancelling a lot of flights and it made me a bit worried that I would not get to leave today. Thankfully my flight to New York was still happening at the time it was supposed to and my connecting flight seems to be on the right track as well. On my flight I got super lucky and just happened to be seated in the same row as a guy who graduated from Maynooth about 25 years ago! He gave me so many great tips about the university and a lot of great advice about being abroad and everything of the sort. I guess it really is a small world after all.
I’m so excited to finally arrive in Maynooth!
