Let’s be real, studying abroad in Europe has so many perks. Access to all these neighboring countries is definitely not something to be taken for granted. Who knows when is the next time you will get a round trip flight to LONDONÂ for $100 again.
London is not to be taken for granted. Three days was definitely not enough to make a dent in this city. Also, there was plenty to do for free if you are trying to save some money, especially since the pound exchange rate is not favorable to the US dollar.
I highly recommend buying the Oyster Tourist Card for traveling through the Tube, Underground, or on bus. It is the cheapest option for transportation and I believe tops off at 7 pounds for 24 hours (don’t quote me on the price) and allows unlimited transportation on all modes that accept the Oyster, pretty awesome. If you like being spontaneous, we took buses for the first few hours, jumping off and on whenever we pleased. Our first museum run in was great and free, even better. My favorite museum was definitely the Museum of London. It walked you through the art, music, and streets of old and new London, a walk through history really. If you like a lot of visuals, that is definitely a place to visit. This next picture is of the British Museum which is ridiculously large. The free portions we could not get through in a few hours. We pretty much picked what looked most interesting and hit the next Museum on the list.
For all you Harry Potter fans, Platform 9 3/4 was everything you could have dreamed of and more. The girls who take your photos for you are so extremely nice, even if it is a tourist trap to go into the Harry Potter souvenir shop. Don’t be totally distracted by the platform, because King’s Cross is an impressive feature in itself. Luckily you don’t need to buy a ticket to reach the Platform, as it is outside the gates of entrance. Honestly, London was not like anything I pictured but I was so impressed. It seemed like there were more international people there than English. Even the best dish of England is Chicken Tikka Masala.
Even though we went astray from our original itinerary, we had the time of our lives.
