I’m really not exaggerating when I say that the past three and a half months have been the absolute best months of my life. I not only fell in love with London, but I got to use it as a launchpad to visit cities I’ve been dreaming about my entire life. From minding the gap on the tube, to redeeming my nectar points at Sainsbury’s, to constantly being asked, “Are you alright?”, I really felt like a Londoner and I know I’m destined to come back here someday.
I had the most incredible experiences in the UK and I’m so glad it was my home base. For example, I went to Windsor Castle on the Queen’s 90th Birthday and accomplished my study abroad goal of seeing the Queen in person! And not only that, I actually got to meet Prince Philip as well, something I’ll never forget. Another fun time was visiting Abbey Road. My mom’s first record was Abbey Road and she was so excited when I got a picture walking across the famous crosswalk outside the studio. Of course, these are just two examples in a myriad of memories, each that comes with a story.
I also loved my time outside England. I made it to seven additional countries: Scotland, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain, Greece, and Italy. From biking along the Seine, to cruising through the canals of Amsterdam, to tanning on Paradise Beach in Mykonos, every trip left me in awe. I’m a major wander-luster and travel is my biggest passion in life. I only hope that the rest of my life offers me the opportunities to explore the rest of the world.
This semester really was a dream come true, and I can’t wait for more adventures in the future. The next trip on my list is to Madrid, Spain for Rollins’ “Verano EspaƱol” Program! Opposite of London, I’ll be living in a homestay with a Spanish family, as well as a roommate from Rollins. I think that studying abroad in London gave me the confidence to pursue this opportunity, and I know that this will bring me just as much joy as London did. Cheers London, Hola Madrid!
