About two weeks ago I went to an Improv Show at the Fortune Theatre downtown in the Octagon with my study abroad group. Before the show we had delicious desserts at Nova (probably the best tiramisu I’ve ever had!), then we headed over to the theatre. I’ve been to comedy shows at SAK comedy club in downtown Orlando, and really enjoyed them, but I was unsure if I would like this show . . . Kiwi humo(u)r is very, very dry.
The theme of the show was high school, and audience members we asked to yell out four high school stereotypes for the actors to play. It ended up being a show about a rich kid, a stoner, a trouble-maker, and a jock (whose main sport was rugby of course). Surprisingly, that comedy show ended up being one of the best I had ever seen! Of course, comprised nearly completely of dry Kiwi-style humo(u)r, it also had a sweet touch to it where the rich kid ended up coming out of the closet and falling in love with the jock. The whole time I was astonished that the actors were completely making their lines up as they went along, never once having rehearsed the show before hand. I enjoyed the show that night so much, my friends and I decided to go back again this past Friday for another great night of Kiwi humo(u)r!
