Thus far, my experience studying in Spain has been more fun than I could have imagined. I’ve managed to make new friends, venture to places I had never heard of, and learn the Spanish language. However, my most favorite experience so far has been our recent day trip to Toledo, Spain. The ancient city is protected by a wall, has long been significant to Spanish history, and reflects the various religions that once ruled.
Walking through the narrow cobblestone streets, it is easy to identify the Catholic, Muslim, and Jewish architecture, and I was so interested in the historic struggle of power for the city of Toledo. The Catholic cathedral was unlike anything I had ever seen, and was absolutely huge. The carved woodwork, gold inlays, sculptures, and marble floors are something that simply couldn’t be recreated today. Having the ability to see these beautiful historic sites with new friends was an awesome experience. The thought that our trip is nearly halfway over is incredibly sad!
