Hola Amigos!
I am writing to you from Madrid, Spain to tell you about some of my travels and adventures I have had. It is hard to believe I am already halfway done with my time here, but I have enjoyed every second of it. I have met so many interesting people from all over the world, and have also become better friends with some people that I have known for a while but haven’t had the chance to spend a lot of time with.
The first day in Madrid I met some people from different countries who had been living in Madrid for a couple of months who became my friends and helped show me around the city. They gave me advice and told me where the best place to do different things was.
The biggest difference I noticed in Madrid the first night was how late everyone stays up. It is not uncommon for people to start dinner as late as 9:30 or 10, and some bars and most clubs do not close until 6am or later. That was a big difference from the U.S. where staying out until 3:00 in the morning would be considered extremely late.
Another difference I noticed was the food. I knew that in Spain tapas were a huge thing, but I did not realize just how popular they are. Every restaurant has them, and even ordering a beer or glass of wine is accompanied by a small tapa of some sort. I really enjoy the food and the relaxed manner in which people enjoy meals here, but sometimes it takes a while to get the check!
Over all, I have loved my time in Spain and I do not want it to come to an end, but I am glad I do not live here year round because there are a lot of things I miss about the U.S. I will continue to post more as my trip continues, and I hope to have even more adventure to share in my next post. Talk to you soon!
Adios,
Clark
