On June 4th, I met up with my moms best friend from college, Tami, who was here in Madrid for the weekend. First, we met up at the apartment she was staying at where we had a gin and tonic and Jamón, Brie, y Pan, and caught up on each other’s lives; we hadn’t seen each other for ten years. After that we went to a restaurant near Plaza Mayor where we had amazing wine, pallea, pulpo, and another dish that I don’t remember the name of, but consisted of really good sausage. It was the first really amazing and authentic food I have had on this trip this far! After the hearty meal, we split up, but made plans to meet the next day to go to the Museo de Sorolla. I did not realize until we got there that the museum was located in Juaquin Sorolla’s original home where he painted most of his famous paintings. We walked through his house and got too see his original paint brushes, easels, and palettes as well as a huge portion of his collection. The other amazing part was the garden they had. It was almost exact when compared to the paintings of it Sorolla did. As we were leaving, there was also a children’s painting class that was going to learn to paint in his house. We went to Café Gijón after the museum: famous for having famous artists come for a coffee and inspiration. I really enjoyed spending time with Tami and getting to see such an amazing museum.
